UM officially established the Computer Centre, introducing early computing facilities using the IBM 1130.
The Computer Centre expanded its role to include teaching & research in Computer Science & Information Technology.
The Diploma in Computer Science programme was introduced.
Master of Computer Science (MCS) and PhD by research programmes began under the Computer Centre.
The Bachelor of Computer Science undergraduate programme commenced with an initial intake of 50 students.
The University Senate approved the proposal to establish the Faculty of Computer Science & Information Technology (FCSIT).
The University of Malaya Council formally approved the establishment of FCSIT & the Computer Services Division.
The FCSIT building was officially opened by the Minister of Education; the Bachelor of Information Technology programme was launched.
An additional FCSIT building was opened to accommodate increasing student enrolment.
